Weird Mysteries 5, 1953
 Wow! This is certainly one of the most famous, gory, and collectible pre-Code horror comic covers of all time. The artwork is by Bernard Bailey, who drew many of the most notorious pre-Code horror covers as well as many early DC superhero comics. Published by Gilmore, the contents include a fantastic story drawn by Basil Wolverton titled, "Swamp Monster". There is, of course, no scene anywhere in the comic that even slightly resembles the cover. Sigh. Thinking up a story to fit this cover would be a great exercise for a budding writer! I don't have a copy of this comic yet, this cover scan was donated by the same gentleman who provided the cover scan for Mister Mystery #12.
