Action 28, 1940

This is a very early Superman cover. Superman appeared in Action comics before he got his own title, and although he was on the cover of Action #1, he wasn't regularly on the cover until issue #19. I think it's a great image because it really captures the primal essence of Superman- strong, bold and prepared to bring justice at a moment's notice wherever he is needed.

According to the Grand Comics Database Project, the cover art is by Paul Cassidy. Inside, the Superman story was scripted by Jerry Seigel and drawn by Jack Burnley. The Pep Morgan and Zatara stories are by Fred Guardineer. The Black Pirate and Chip Carson stories are drawn By Sheldon Moldoff and last, but definitely not least is a great Tex Thompson story by Bernard Baily.

P.S. I no longer own this comic, it was sold in April 2003 for $220.
