Blue Bolt 108, 1951
This cover is special just for it's sheer artistry. The "porthole"
panels along the spine are fun, but can be distracting, and the scenario seems
contrived (free-floating spacemen armed with rifles shooting at passing
spaceships?!?) while the background starfield is flat, geometric, and impossibly
crowded - but artist L.B. Cole amazingly makes it all look incredibly good with
his trademark bright, poster-style colors, balanced composition, and clean
lines.
Content-wise this issue is cool for it's 8-page Spacehawk story by Basil
Wolverton, and early Joe Simon and Jack Kirby art in the Blue Bolt story.
