Calling All Boys 14, 1947

Here's another cover for the "bizzare & funny" catagory! Calling All Boys was one of the wholesome kid's comics of the 1940s and '50s which typically featured a variety of western, sports and adventure stories as well as educational tidbits.

The great thing about this particular issue is that the cover features the notorious cross-dresser and closet homosexual J. Edgar Hoover smack-dab in the center with "Calling All Boys" emblazed above his mugshot!

Of course at the time J. Edgar Hoover was known only as the ramrod straight and morally unquestionable head of the F.B.I. - but with the perspective of history we can now enjoy the sublime irony of this odd cover!!
